Abstract

Learning the history of Islamic culture in schools is usually done with the lecture method. Because history is seen as a story of the past and less useful. This view has an impact on students' lack of interest in learning history. Students become less interested and passive in learning Islamic Cultural History. In terms of learning history, it can train students to think chronologically, grow ideology, grow nationalism and can design the future based on the experience of past events. The past is the cause of the present and the present is the cause of the future. Seeing the condition of learning Islamic Cultural History that is not qualified because of the view that history is only limited to the past, learning Islamic Cultural History must turn into quality learning that has an impact on students' thoughts and actions. The implementation of learning in the classroom is related to the model or learning method applied by educators. There must be a learning model that is able to activate students, build students' interest in learning the history of Islamic culture. For this reason, the research of discovery learning models in learning the history of Islamic culture is carried out. The purpose of this study is to prove that the discovery learning model is effective to improve the quality of Islamic Cultural History learning. Quality learning is learning where students are active, motivated and achieve learning objectives. In addition, this study also aims to determine what learning model can make Islamic Cultural History learning qualit. This study uses an experimental method with a control class design and an experimental class. Data were taken from the results of the pretest and posttest. In the experimental class the application of the discovery learning model was carried out and in the control class the conventional learning model was the lecture method. Before learning, a pretest and posttest were carried out after the learning material was finished. The research was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Ibadul Ghofur with a population of class 10, the samples were class 10 MIA 1 as the experimental class and class 10 MIA 2 as the control class. The results of this study prove that the discovery learning model is effective for improving the quality of Islamic Cultural History learning with evidence that the results of the pretest and posttest between the experimental class and the control class are very different. The results of the control class pretest an average of 57.91 and an average of 72.50 posttest. For the experimental class, the average pretest result was 57.04 and the posttest average was 86.91. The results of the pretest and posttest were also measured by the N-gain score. The experimental class with the discovery model learning the N-gain score of 70.49 is in the effective category. In the control class with conventional learning or lectures with an N-gain score of 35, 10 is in the ineffective category. With discovery learning students become more active than learning with conventional models or lectures. This discovery learning model is considered suitable to improve the quality and motivation of students in learning Islamic Cultural History.
